Adventure with Pack 873 in Annandale
Family Scouting has called Annandale home since 1960, and we'd love to have your family join us.
Where the whole family gets outside together
We were the first family pack in the area to offer the Lion program for Kindergartners, so even our youngest scouts start the adventure early. Beyond monthly Pack and Den meetings, our hiking club heads out most months for hikes ranging from 1.5 to 4 miles. Fall and Spring camping trips, plus summer day and overnight camp, bring parents, siblings and scouts along for the ride.
What is Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouts is Scouting America's program for boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. It is a fun way to spend time with your child while they grow in character, confidence, and citizenship, explore the outdoors, and make friends. Safety comes first everywhere: every adult leader completes Safeguarding Youth training. Kids join for the fun. The rest comes along for the ride.

How a pack works
Your child joins a den, a small group of Cub Scouts in the same grade that meets a couple of times a month. All the dens together make up the pack, which gathers monthly for games, skits, songs, and awards. Across the year a pack also camps, races in the Pinewood Derby, celebrates at the blue and gold banquet, and pitches in on service projects.
The trail from Lion to Arrow of Light
Cub Scouts advance by grade, earning badges through hands-on adventures:
- Lion (kindergarten)
- Tiger (first grade)
- Wolf (second grade)
- Bear (third grade)
- Webelos (fourth grade)
- Arrow of Light (fifth grade)
Lions and Tigers do everything alongside a parent or another caring adult. Each year after, Cub Scouts grow more independent, and Arrow of Light Scouts get ready to cross over into Scouts BSA.
What Cub Scouts promise
Cub Scouts live by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
The Scout Oath:
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
The Scout Law:
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
The Cub Scout motto keeps it simple: "Do Your Best."
Parents belong here
Cub Scouting is built for families. Parents work on adventures at home, cheer at pack meetings, and help keep the pack running as den leaders, committee members, and helpers. Safety comes first everywhere: every adult leader completes Safeguarding Youth training, and packs follow Scouting America's youth-safety policies.
See us in the CWES cafeteria
Pack 873 meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Canterbury Woods Elementary School cafeteria in Annandale, with dens gathering once or twice more, often on Sunday afternoons. Come watch a meeting before you decide anything. You can also meet us at Rutherford Park on August 30th or the bike rodeo at Ilda Pool on September 13th.
